Recipe

Prep Time: Approximately 15 chapatis
Cook Time: 30 min

Ingredients

  • 2 cups ruchmehl
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp oil

Method

  1. Take a broad bowl. Put ruchmehl & salt and mix it properly with hands.
  2. Add 1/4 water and mix the flour with water kneading and mixing. Slowly add all the water during kneading the dough.
  3. Once you are finish kneading, sprinkle some water on top, cover it and let it rest for 15 min.
  4. After 15 min. pull the dough from the sides and put 1 ts. oil and knead it again to a smooth dough.
  5. Now put a flat pan on the stove. Let it get a bit hot.
  6. Take a small size of dough (approximately a size of plum) and dust it with extra flour and make a round flat bread from it.
  7. Put the rolled bread on the pan and cook it on both sides.
  8. Chapatis are ready to eat.
  9. Notes - You can also make your own mixtures of different types of flour. I have tried a mix of 1/3 vollkorn mehl & 2/3 halbweissmehl, Buchweizenmehl etc. Please remember that the amount of water will differ for different types of flours.
  10. Now let it rest for 15 min. Then put a little oil and knead it again as shown in the picture down.
